Born and raised in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, woodworker Matthew J. D'Avella has been designing and building furniture for more than twenty years.  His training is rooted in American and English design. However, since moving to Kailua-Kona Hawaii in 1994 he has been studying Asian and Hawaiian furniture design while experiencing tremendous success with his creations in the traditional Asian and Hawaiian furniture markets.  Over the past five years Matthew has received three top honors awards for "Best of Show" and numerous "Honorable Mention" awards at both Island-wide and Statewide juried woodworking shows.  Matthew is also the current President of the "Hawaii Wood Guild".  The pieces of furniture that he creates speak for themselves -- they are not just works of art, they are beautiful expressions of the natural world around us.
